How can you cooperate with the government in dealing with Coronavirus?

Why and how people should support their government in such crucial circumstances of coronavirus?

Till last year did you think that we all will be stuck at home, scared to touch each other and the world would go remotely working with borders international borders sealed.

No…right?

But the world right now is facing the biggest challenge of this decade.

It is Covid19 or as we commonly say Corona Virus.

So what exactly is the Corona Virus?

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus.

Coronaviruses are a family of viruses that range from the common cold to MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) coronavirus and SARs ( Severe acute respiratory syndrome) coronavirus.

These viruses are circulating in animals ( more specifically bats) and some of these have the capability of transmitting between animals and humans. The spread of this virus among humans started in Wuhan, China in 2019.

The COVID-19 virus affects different people in different ways. Some Covid19 infected people might experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover easily.

On the other hand, older people and those with underlying medical problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer are more likely to develop a serious illness which might even result in death.

Some of its main symptoms are:

1.Fever
2.Tiredness
3.Dry cough.

Other symptoms of Corona Virus include:

4. Shortness of breath
5. Aches and pains
6. Sore throat

and very few people will report diarrhea, nausea or a runny nose

The worst part about this virus is that it spreads very fast and easily from person to person.

This can happen through small droplets from the nose or mouth which are spread when a person infected with COVID-19 coughs or exhales.

These small droplets land on objects or surface which other people might touch or come in contact with and then touching their nose, eyes or mouth. It can also spread if someone breathes in these droplets.

coronavirus infection and cure

Is there a treatment for people infected with COVID-19?

Unfortunately, until now there is no fixed treatment for people infected with COVID-19.

Though doctors and scientists are working in developing a vaccine and medication for the prevention and cure of the virus, they haven’t had any success till now. Infected people may need supportive care to help them breathe which can help them get better with time.

To safeguard themselves while treating patients, doctors and other health workers wear special suits called PPE or Personal Protective Equipments which consists of standard precautions: gloves, mask, gown.

If it is blood or airborne high infections, it will include: Face protection, goggles, and mask or face shield, gloves, gown or coverall, head cover, rubber boots.

So how to protect yourself from COVID-19?

Following are some of the ways to prevent this infection and to slow down its transmission :

1. Wash your hands regularly with soap and water or clean them with an alcohol-based sanitizer.

2.Avoid touching your face.

3. Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing.

4. Stay home if you feel unwell.

5. Refrain from smoking and other activities that weaken the lungs.

6. Practice social distancing by avoiding unnecessary travel and staying away from large groups of people.

7. Maintain at least 1-meter distance between you and other people

social distancing

These are some of the ways of prevention for the long term but there is something more we need to do right now to decrease the global spread of this pandemic. It is to cooperate and support your government.

Why should you support your government?

Till now almost 2,083,304 people all over the world have been infected with coronavirus.

Whereas 134,616 have already died. In India, as of now, the death count is 422 while 12,370 people are already been infected.

Don’t you think the numbers are too big to ignore?

Definitely the numbers are too big and with no specific treatment or vaccine developed till now.

These numbers tend to increase in the coming days.

Yet every country’s government is trying its best to stop the further spread of this virus in their country by taking measures such as the whole country or statewide lockdown.

This has resulted in the global slowdown of the economy which has added a lot more challenges for governments all over the world.

Let’s talk about India. Our country is the second most populated country in the world.

Our states have more population than many countries in the world.

Also, we have a high number of illiterate and poor people.

This means that spreading awareness about coronavirus is a highly difficult task in India.

Yet central and state governments in India are working hyperactively to protect its citizens from COVID19.

Some of the measures the Indian government took in the fight against this pandemic are

India has been on Lockdown since 24th March 2020, limiting movement of the entire 1.3 billion population of India as a preventive measure to stop the start community transmission in the country.

The focus of the Indian government is the safety of its citizens unlike many countries even if it costs an economic slowdown.

On the Ministry of Health’s website, a “novel coronavirus” landing page gives the numbers of phone helplines, as well as detailed advice and guidelines.

On a global level, Prime Minister Modi has shown leadership in mobilizing the heads of government of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) and that of the G20 to share reliable information, best practices and support each other in fighting this pandemic.

The central and state governments along with many NGOs are providing food to poor people daily.

Trains, hotels, schools, etc are turned into isolation wards.

The government is doing their part but as citizens, we also have some responsibility.

We have been daily coming across news of citizens breaking the lockdown rule, not the following police orders and even fighting with police personnel and healthcare workers.

We need to understand that humanity is facing one of the biggest challenges.

It is not time to rebel against the government irrespective of your political inclination but to support them.

As compared to many big countries like the USA, India is in a better position with much lesser cases and deaths due to COVID19.

The only reason behind it is the fast actions our government took learning from other countries’ successes and failures while dealing with coronavirus.

At the end of the day, you are saving yourself and your family by cooperating with the government be it in India or other countries.

It is only about your safety. The government doesn’t benefit anything from this rather they will be dealing with huge economic losses.

How can you cooperate with the government in dealing with Coronavirus?

First and foremost is to follow the rules imposed by the government.

Don’t break the lockdown. Step out of the house only when needed.

Wear masks to cover your mouth and nose when you step out of the house.

These masks can be any cotton cloth, handkerchief or homemade masks.

Wash your hands for 20 seconds every now and then especially before eating.

Practice social distancing.

Don’t travel unnecessarily.

Encourage others to follow government rules.

Educate your house help and other staff about the seriousness of this disease and spread awareness.

Pay the salaries of your helping staff on time even if they are not working for you right now.

You are the privileged one and so you should use this privilege to make sure the people who work for you don’t sleep empty stomach.

Download resources such as Aarogya Setu App to help the government to track the movement of COVID19 infected people and potential threats.

It would also help you to stay aware of the coronavirus patients around you.

Don’t panic buy and hoard essential items. This might create a shortage of supply.

Don’t spread any fake news over social media especially WhatsApp.

Don’t believe in any news or update on Corona Virus till it is published by official sites such WHO or mygovt.in etc.

Respect police, doctors and other healthcare workers who are working day and night to ensure your safety.

The world is going through the biggest crisis of this decade and the only way right now to protect ourselves is to cooperate with our governments.

Just by doing these small things, we would be able to make a larger impact in this fight against Corona Virus.

WHO Press Conference says that

Future of this pandemic will depend on how India handles it. India eliminated Smallpox & Polio and gave a gift to the world.

India has tremendous capacities. It should lead the way and show the world again.

India has always been seen as an example and let us make sure it continues to be seen this way.
