Dhanteras- the festival of Gold and Silver

#Dhanteras is the festival of Gold, Silver and lights.

Deepawali celebrations begin on this day.

The word “Dhanteras” has two parts – “Dhan” meaning wealth and “teras” meaning “thirteen.” According to the Hindu calendar, Dhanteras is celebrated on the Trayodashi of Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month. This is a Hindu festival and celebrated across India by Hindu people.

The Indian Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy announced its decision to observe Dhanteras as “National Ayurveda Day”, which was first observed on 28 October 2016.

Devotees purchase various items, especially household items such as utensils and brooms. Such items are offered to Lord Dhanvantari during the rituals of worship. People also buy gold and silver items like jewellery, coins and bars for the occasion of #Dhanteras.

Hindus consider it an extremely auspicious day to make new purchases, especially of gold or silver

items and new utensils. It is believed that the new “Dhan” (wealth) or anything made of precious metal is a sign of good luck.
